It has been many years since the last Rodeo Parade. In its day was one of the most celebrated events in Merritt. With the help of three key volunteers the Merritt & District Chamber of Commerce is working at bringing it back. Rodeo committee volunteers, Virginia Aspinall, Jim Beckett and Brandi O'Flynn are committed to putting life back into this event. To date - the route has been mapped and approved, additional volunteers recruited and registration forms are out waiting for submissions. This year's parade may not be up to the same scale as the past but at least it is a start, says Chamber manager, Etelka Gillespie. Our Rodeo committee is very enthusiastic and ready to take on whatever comes their way, that is exciting, says Gillespie.
The route for the parade resembles the same format as in the past. Floats and parade participants start out at Voght Park and make their way down Quilchena Avenue - dispursing at the 4 way stop on Charters Street. As in the past the committee is encouraging all businesses to come on board by dressing up their businesses and wearing rodeo attire.
