“To improve holistically the quality of life, cultural distinctiveness and the strengthening of friendship between Aboriginal and Non–Aboriginal people in the Nicola Valley”, Conayt Friendship Society has been in operation since 1975. Since its inception we have grown to provide a variety of community services. At present Conayt offers the following services:

Housing program: 42 subsidized rental units for aboriginal families

Alcohol and Drug Counselling: counsels individuals and groups as well as offering referral services

Family Preservation Program: to ensure that children at risk are kept safe within their family units

Merritt Moms Program: offers prenatal nutrition and counselling services for families with children from infants to 6 months of age

Merritt Families Program: promotes healthy development of families with children from 6 months to 6 years of age

Community and Cultural Program. These programs work together to improve community relations by holding gatherings such as Aboriginal Day Celebrations. Generally these gatherings are free to the public, and are accompanied by cultural presentations or workshops. These programs are funding by Thursday Night Bingo, 6 PM @ Elks Hall.
