Frequently Asked Questions 1. What is "Business after Business"? This is an opportunity for Merritt Chamber members to get together to discuss business and obtain new business contacts by "networking". Chamber members talk to other business owners in a casual and friendly atmosphere. It's an opportunity for them to meet new people and hand out their business cards and/or literature which may lead to increased business for themselves, or obtain services they are looking for. 2. Where and when is the event held? The "BAB's" are held monthly on the 3rd or 4th Thursday of the month starting at 5 pm to approximately 7 pm. Chamber members offer to host the event so they can showcase their business and provide information to attendees by way of a short presentation and answering questions. 3. I'm always starving after work. Is there anything to eat? Of course! The host provides plenty of appetizers and drinks for everyone. It is recommended that you have enough appetizers and drinks for about 20 to 30 people. Try to serve items that will still be fresh the next day for your staff or customers to enjoy if you happen to have some left over. 4. My business environment is not suitable to accommodate this type of event. What can I do? No problem. If you want to host the monthly event, you can use the Chamber office located on Voght Street in the Civic Centre Plaza. We have lots of room. In fact, we will even cater the event for a very reasonable fee. 5. Why should I host a BAB? The benefits of hosting a BAB outweigh the expense by far. Not only is it great exposure for your business, your business is featured on our web site and in the Merritt News the week before the BAB. Besides, it's fun and informative, and you can attend 11 more for free! 6. I have a very small business. I would like to host a BAB, but I don't think I can afford it. Do you have any suggestions? Why don't you team up with another business? For example, let's say you are an auto mechanic. Maybe you could team up with a towing company, split the costs and do a combined presentation about auto care and safe driving. Maybe you sell air conditioners - why don't you team up with a business that services air conditioners? This is a great way for a small business to become a BIG business. In regard to appetizers and drinks, when I'm in a pinch, I get my relatives to chip in! It's up to you what you want to serve and do not be extravagant or go over your budget. 7. I don't belong to the Chamber right now, but I am thinking about joining. Can I still attend? Businesses that do not belong to the Chamber can attend BAB's by contacting the Chamber office in advance and asking for sponsorship to attend. You can attend 2 BAB's a year without joining the Chamber. How do I get to be a host? Simply call or email the Chamber office - 250-378-5634 or
