Position: Community Engagement Advisor

Hours: 20 - 35 hours per week (flexible) Will include weekend hours for events.
Contract Duration: 52 - 78 weeks, depending on funding

Note: This position may be divided into two positions such as 1) events and 2) business engagement (business engagement would be the lead position)
About the Position
The Chamber of Commerce Community Engagement Advisor primarily involves assisting the Chamber board and the City of Merritt by organizing at least four signature events in the Nicola Valley - promoting the City of Merritt, the Chamber of Commerce, and local businesses & not-for-profits. The Community Engagement Advisor role involves facilitation, education and outreach, relationship building, supporting industry/community organizations and groups, acting as a conduit between businesses, NPO's, City of Merritt and the Chamber of Commerce, with the goal of improving business outcomes and optimism in the Nicola Valley.
This position works independently under the supervision of the Chamber board to fulfill the outcomes and KPIs of the ETSI BC Forestry Impact Recovery Program and will have wide latitude for exercising independent initiative and judgment in the performance of duties and responsibilities. It will include supervising volunteers and working closely with part-time or temporary employees in order to complete projects. Measuring the impacts of projects will be key in meeting the deliverables of the grant.
Qualifications:
● Relevant post-secondary education
● Proven track record in the design and implementation of large events
● Proven ability to develop surveys and report findings
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Confident presenter
● Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team
● Good organizational, planning, execution, and time management skills
● Ability to problem-solve
● Driver’s License
● Commitment to continuous improvement and appetite for innovation
● Flexible, adaptable and enjoys challenge and change

Hours: Approx. 35 hours per week (flexible) Will include some weekends or Saturdays.
Contract Duration: 10 weeks (July/August 2023)
Anticipated Start Date: June 19, 2023 – September 2, 2023
Language Required: English
Wages: $19 per hour
Closing Date: June 15, 2023
NOTE: This position funded through Canada Summer Jobs for Youth under the age of 30 yrs.
About the Position
The Chamber of Commerce Special Events coordinator primarily involves assisting the Chamber staff by participating in events in the Nicola Valley - promoting the City of Merritt, Chamber of Commerce, and local businesses & not-for-profits.
Job Responsibilities:

Supporting the Chamber and NVIT with outreach & networking activities,

Promoting the Chamber and its programming at local community events,

Recruitment of business members & directors,

Booking vendors, media, advertising, and other required planning,

Overall awareness of summer activities and events in the Nicola Valley,

Monitor attendance, vendor participation and events during their run,
-
Provide Chamber support to other business community members on request,
-
Providing support as needed in other community event-related projects and duties,

General office duties, answering the phone and email inquiries and taking photos at events,

Other related duties as required.
